The admitting nurse checked Julie over and she sat in the waiting area. The nurse locked her belongings in a cupboard and assured her they would be brought to her post-operative bed. She sat in a state of mixed apprehension and excitement. Soon her anatomy would match her gender! The surgeon came up and briefly chatted, then walked her to the Operating Suite where she climbed onto the operating table, The anaesthetist introduced himself and noticed her British accent and started chatting about his experiences as a trainee in England. She awoke puzzled. Where was she? Had they cancelled it? She lay quietly, feeling as though she had had a short sleep. She felt fine. She put her hands on her abdomen. Oh, there was a bulky dressing on her lower abdomen. It was all over. Her surgery was finished. A nurse came over and smiled at her. "Oh good, you're awake. How do you feel?" "Fine. I feel like I just had a short nap. But I find I have a bulky dressing here. I guess it's all over. I'm done. Wow!" Her nurse smiled
